The AIDS Pandemic…NOT.

Is there a pattern here? Seems that when the Left really goes after a “cause” they tend to…um…creatively enlarge…the scale of the problem.  Could this also apply to global war…er…catastrophic climate change? As RL says, follow the money.

Flu Update: The First Mammals Are Infected in the EU

Posted by Mark on March 1, 2006

Germany has ordered all cats to be kept indoors in five states. Before the panic sets in, here’s a response from the World Health Organization.

Reminds me of the Planet of the Apes movies. Wasn’t it a plague that wiped out all dogs and cats that caused people to turn to monkeys as domestic pets?

The Ticking Time Bombs: Iran and the Coming Flu Pandemic

Posted by Mark on February 11, 2006

I know, I know. It’s Saturday, the Olympics are on, and no one wants a downer right now. But Iran’s whackjob is still threatening to wipe Israel off the map:

Tehran (dpa) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Saturday that the Palestinians and “other nations” will eventually remove Israel from the region.

Addressing a mass demonstration in Tehran - one of many organized throughout Iran to commemorate the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution - he once again questioned the Holocaust “fairy tale”.

“We ask the West to remove what they created sixty years ago and if they do not listen to our recommendations, then the Palestinian nation and other nations will eventually do this for them,” Ahmadinejad said in a ceremony marking the 27th anniversary of the Islamic revolution.

“Do the removal of Israel before it is too late and save yourself from the fury of regional nations,” the ultra-conservative president said. He once again called the Holocaust a “fairy tale” and said Europeans have become hostages of “Zionists” in Israel.

He also accused Europeans for not allowing “neutral scholars” to investigate in Europe and make a scientific report on “the truth about the fairy tale of Holocaust.”

“How comes that insulting the prophet of Muslims worldwide is justified within the framework of press freedom, but investigating about the fairy tale Holocaust is not?” Ahmadinejad said.

And if that’s not enough to give you nightmares, how about this:

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The spread of bird flu from Asia to eastern Europe and now west Africa has increased the chance the virus will mutate and set off a pandemic, the U.N. bird flu chief said.

Dr. David Nabarro said there is no evidence yet of any change in the virus, which has killed at least 88 people since 2003.

Almost all the deaths have been linked to contact with infected poultry, but experts fear the virus could mutate into a form that spreads easily among humans, setting off a pandemic.

“Unfortunately, we cannot tell when the mutation might happen, or where it might happen, or how unpleasant the mutant virus will turn out to be,” he said in an interview. “Nevertheless, we must remain on high alert for the possibility of sustained human-to-human virus transmission and of a pandemic starting at any time.”

Now we can all go back to watching Women’s Hockey, Curling, and my personal favorite, the Luge. Have a nice day…and let’s be careful out there.
